Laptop keyboards have to be handled with care. They are much thinner than standard desktop keyboards and can become damaged from harsh use. If the keyboard is not working properly, or there are keys missing, the best move is replace the entire Dell Inspiron N5010 keyboard. This can be done without having to send the laptop to a professional. You can do it yourself in about 15 minutes.
Turn the laptop off and remove the battery. Gather the tools needed for the repair.
Use a flat head screwdriver to lift the hinge above the keyboard. Stick the screwdriver near the indent and gently pry it up. Remove the plastic hinge.
Unscrew the two screws mounting the keyboard to the laptop base with the Phillips screwdriver. Place screws in a place where they can be found.
Unplug the keyboard flex cable that is connecting the laptop to the keyboard. Remove the old keyboard. Clean any dirt that is left when the keyboard is removed.
Connect the new Dell Inspiron N5010 keyboard flex cable to laptop. Replace the screws securing the keyboard to the laptop. Replace the plastic cover on the keyboard and replace the battery and plug. Power on the laptop and test the keyboard to see if it is working properly.
